Time Slice

Numbers can hide the people they represent. This block brings attention back to individual lives, showing how moments of violence accumulate into a collective loss. Each case reflects a voice silenced, a story unfinished, and a reminder that the cost of truth is ultimately paid by human lives.

RESEARCH REPORT No. 2026: CHRONICLE OF LOSSES - Register of interrupted lives

Statistics have a dangerous tendency to depersonalize tragedy, turning unique destinies into dry coefficients. This section brings the focus of the study back to the real scale of the losses. What we see here are not just abstract graphs, but a documented chronicle of the destruction of a profession. The consolidated registry contains 1,502 names — 1,257 journalists killed and 245 imprisoned. Each dot on the Registry of Victims visualization represents a specific person whose voice was forcibly silenced and whose story remains unfinished.

An analysis of the timeline reveals a frightening synchronicity in repressive methods. The year 2024 became a point of absolute darkness, setting a double anti-record: 126 physical eliminations and 77 new prison sentences. This coincidence of peaks indicates a shift by global actors toward tactics of total cleansing of the information field, where prison cells and sniper bullets have become equivalent and complementary instruments of censorship.

A detailed analysis of the composition of victims (Status Composition) shows that the risk of losing one's freedom increases in proportion to the risk of death. While at the beginning of the decade arrests were used as a selective deterrent, today they are routine. Among the 1,502 victims, we see representatives of all sectors: from 268 independent freelancers deprived of institutional protection by editorial offices to full-time employees of the world's largest media holdings. The price of truth is no longer a metaphor—in the current geopolitical reality, it is measured in years of imprisonment and life itself.
